How the Opaline Outpost is curated, created, protected, and kept honest — so you can explore with confidence.
Privacy and Data
The Opaline Outpost Community is hosted through Circle. Circle may collect and process information associated with your use of the community—including account, profile, device, and usage information—under its own systems and policies.
Please review Circle’s Privacy Policy for details about how Circle collects, stores, uses, and shares personal information.circle
Information you provide directly to The Opaline Outpost through the community—such as your profile details, posts, comments, messages, membership request, or email correspondence—may be used to manage membership, facilitate community participation, respond to requests, and share relevant community updates.
AI Use & Transparency
Every piece begins with me: the ideas, research, outlines, subheads, messy first drafts, and the work of shaping a thought into something worth sharing. Once I have a workable draft, I may use an LLM to help identify unclear phrasing, smooth transitions, organize material, refine copy, and identify errors/typos. I then review, revise, and make all final editorial decisions myself.
I am the human before, during, and after the loop. I do not use AI to invent sources, citations, facts, or visual assets. Any AI-assisted material is reviewed and edited before publication, and I do not present AI-generated writing as solely human-authored work.
All artwork and visual materials (fonts, icons, background images, texture, etc.) are created by human artists or sourced through appropriately licensed platforms and assets—primarily Envato and Etsy.
Resource Curation & Discovery
The Opaline Outpost is built to surface thoughtful work that may be difficult to find through ordinary search—especially emerging publications, independent creators, small institutions, and work that lives at the intersections of memory, technology, aging, storytelling, and what makes us human.
Research may begin with a combination of human inquiry and AI-assisted discovery tools, including deep-research LLMs. These tools help identify potential publications, resources, and connections across the Outpost’s thematic areas; they do not determine what is included.
Every resource is reviewed by a human and entered individually into a relational Airtable database. Entries are connected, where relevant, to topics, publications, institutions, creators, and related resources, creating a browsable network rather than a simple list of links.
Publication logos and visual identifiers are also located and uploaded manually. I aim to represent each resource accurately, and welcome corrections, updates, or removal requests from creators and organizations.
The Hub is available through a free community login. This helps protect member privacy, reduce automated scraping and spam, and preserve the Hub as a more intentional space for discovery and connection.
No Data Scraping or Automated Harvesting
Opaline Outpost does not permit data scraping, automated harvesting, bulk extraction, or systematic collection of content or member information from this website, the Hub, or the Community.
No content, directory data, profiles, posts, discussions, contact information, metadata, or other materials may be crawled, scraped, copied, indexed, downloaded, aggregated, republished, resold, used to build third-party databases, or collected through automated means without prior written permission.
This prohibition includes the use of Opaline Outpost content or data to train, develop, evaluate, or augment artificial intelligence, machine-learning models, large language models, datasets, recommendation systems, or similar technologies.
Access to Opaline Outpost—whether public, free, or paid—does not grant permission to extract or reuse its data. Attempts to circumvent access controls, rate limits, member protections, or other technical safeguards are expressly prohibited.
We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access and pursue appropriate remedies when unauthorized scraping, harvesting, extraction, or reuse is detected.
Ethical Standards
The Opaline Outpost aims to publish and share work that engages thoughtfully with memory, matter, mind, meaning, and what makes us human. We welcome a range of perspectives and contributors—from emerging creators to established institutions—when their work is shared in good faith and contributes meaningfully to conversation, curiosity, or care.
We do not knowingly publish, promote, or host material that:
-
Promotes hate, harassment, discrimination, or targeted abuse.
-
Intentionally spreads false or misleading information.
-
Exploits, dehumanizes, or endangers others.
-
Misrepresents sources, authorship, or material facts.
-
Violates intellectual-property rights or community trust.
These standards are not meant to support a space where people can ask difficult questions, share unfinished thinking, and engage with one another honestly and respectfully.
